Worthy Brother & Division

Back in May, we traveled to Hartwell GA just below the SC state line came across this item of interest while attending Sunday Mass. This picture (which is compress for sending by e-mail) of a golden (paint of course)  statue of St Patrick which is located in entrance way the community center of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Hartwell GA 30643, The pastor is Reverend Father Terence Kane, a native of Drogheda, County Louth Ireland. Father Kane, as a young priest, was recruited by the Diocese of Atlanta to service the needs of Catholics in GA.

Our friend Jennifer Younger, who has an artist’s eye when taking photos unlike me, took the picture for us.

We found it very interesting to find this statue and an Irish born priest in an area of Georgia were most Catholics trace their heritage to Catholic German settlers.

Well anyway, thought it might made an interesting item for the division website,; another note the parish there has an active St Vincent de Paul Society

New resting place for mass grave immigrants in New York

IN THE mid-19th century, newly arrived Irish immigrants wandered Staten
Island, penniless and disoriented, scrounging for food, waiting for
children, spouses, siblings or parents interned in the quarantine
hospital to die or be discharged.
